When it comes to planning a vacation abroad, one thing at the top of your packing list is likely to be a travel medical insurance policy and during your search, two similar plans you will likely come across are InterMedical Insurance and Atlas International. While both of these plans are very similar, they are also very different in a number of ways .

InterMedical Insurance and Atlas International are both comprehensive coverage plans that pay 100% up to the policy maximum for individuals traveling outside of the USA. While the policy maximum options are relatively low for such travelers, both plans are available for travelers above the age of 70.   • After the deductible, plan pays 90% of the first $10,000 then 100% after that for expenses incurred inside the US.
  • Policy maximum options of $25,000, $50,000, $100,000, $200,000, $500,000, or $1,000,000 for ages 69 and under, $50,000 for ages 70-79, and $10,000 for ages 80+
  • No coverage for an acute onset of a preexisting condition
  • $50,000 available coverage for AD&D

Atlas International
  • Administered by HCCMIS
  • International coverage only. No coverage at all within the US
  • After the deductible, plan pays 100%
  • Policy maximum options of $50,000, $100,000, $250,000, $500,000, $1 million, $2 million for ages 69 and under, $250,000 for age 70-79
  • Coverage up to policy maximum for an acute onset of a preexisting condition below age 70, up to $100,000 for age 70-79
  • $25,000 available coverage for AD&D
